Local Outbreak Update

With the recent increase in respiratory and enteric illness throughout the Cypress Health Region’s communities and the province as a whole, the region’s management team and emergency preparedness committee had discussions this morning to develop the go-forward plans. 
  • A top priority is to reduce the risks for the spreading of illness within our facilities and in the communities. 
  • Patient/Resident and staff safety will be emphasized in the implementation of strategies.
As of noon today, there has been no additions to the number of facilities that have been declared in an ‘outbreak’ situation …
  • Gull Lake Special Care Centre
  • Prairie Health Care Centre, Cabri
  • Leader Hospital
  • Palliser Regional Care Centre, Swift Current
  • Swift Current Care Centre
  • Medical/Surgical department (west wing), Cypress Regional Hospital, Swift Current
  • VISITOR RESTRICTIONS REMAIN IN EFFECT IN ALL OF THESE FACILITIES/DEPARTMENTS.
The following additional measures have been implemented …
  • Informational tables will be set up by the front entrances of all facilities throughout the region –signage (attached) will be displayed and instructions for any visitation that is available.
  1.  In the applicable facilities,visitors will be asked to wear isolation masks as provided, portable handwashing stations will be provided (where available), visitors will be asked to wash their hands upon entering and leaving the facility and/or use Avagard when handwashing sinks are not readily available.
  2.  Anyone experiencing signs and symptoms of illness are being asked to stay away from the .This request is being strongly emphasized by the region as a main objective to reduce the risks of bringing community illness into a facility or transferring facility illness into the community.
  • Clients who are scheduled for a community services appointment and are experiencing signs and symptoms of an illness will be asked to reschedule their appointments.
  • Additional usage of isolation masks in facilities will be available.
  • Additional influenza vaccination clinics for public and health region staff are being organized for early in the week of January 7thand will be promoted as they are confirmed (please look forward to this information coming your way over the next while).

The province of Saskatchewan is seeing very rapid activity of respiratory illnesses at this time.  The Cypress Health Region's top priority is to reduce the risks for the spreading of illness within our facilities and in the communities.  Patient, resident, and staff safety is being emphasized in the implementation of strategies.
A total of seven facilities within the Cypress Health Region are currently under an outbreak status with restricted visitation.  All outbreaks have been declared under the guidance of Consulting Medical Health Officer Dr. David Torr.

  • Palliser Regional Care Centre, Swift Current - Confirmed Rhinovirus
  • Swift Current Care Centre - Confirmed Influenza A
  • Prairie Health Care Centre, Cabri - Confirmed Influenza A
  • Leader Union Hospital - Unconfirmed Respiratory Illness
  • Shaunavon Hospital - Unconfirmed Respiratory Illness
  • Gull Lake Special Care Centre - Confirmed Norovirus
  • Cypress Regional Hospital, Medical/Surgical, West Wing - Unconfirmed Illness
