Visiting restrictions are in effect at both the Swift Current Care Centre and the Gull Lake Special Care Centre after two different illnesses have reached outbreak status.
An outbreak was declared at the Swift Current Care Centre on Wednesday after 13 residents of the long-term care facility are sick with an unidentified respiratory illness.
Earlier this morning, an outbreak was declared at the Gull Lake Special Care Centre following the outbreak of an unidentified enteric illness. Two residents and three staff members are experiencing symptoms of the illness.
Restrictions are in effect until the outbreak status is rescinded.
The Cypress Health Region has sent samples to the Saskatchewan Disease Control Lab in Regina to confirm both illnesses.
Until further notice, all visitation to the facilities are is restricted in order to reduce the risk of spreading the illness and limiting the potential for community illnesses/viruses to be brought into the facility.
Cypress Health Region officials are reminding the public to do their part in reducing the risks of transferring illness to their families and others around them. Everyone should be mindful of washing their hands frequently and properly, staying home when ill, and increasing cleaning efforts in houses and businesses.
