Commercial sex workers, otherwise known as prostitutes in Nigeria have
sent out strong warnings to its members across the country to be careful
of the deadly Ebola disease.
The group, operating under the aegis of Association of Nigerian Prostitutes, ANP, handed this warning after a meeting held in Lagos on Monday.
Some of its leaders who met in the state had in a statement warned its members to be well protected in the cause of doing their business to avoid contacting the deadly disease.
According to the statement, “Some of us met yesterday in Lagos to discuss on how to sensitize our members against the disease and we are calling on them to be very careful, if possible ‘hang boot’ for now till the federal government finds a lasting solution to the killer virus.
“Once a member contracts the dreaded virus, the entire country is in trouble, and to avoid that, we want both customers and patrons to be very careful.
”We will still be meeting in Agege, Lagos on Wednesday (today) to campaign against the killer disease, but we are still using this medium to call on all members of ANP to be guided accordingly as the government battles to conquer the disease.”
Some commercial sex workers are angry as a result of the outbreak of the Ebola disease in the country.
Our reporter observed that nightclubs and brothels across Lagos State have been experiencing declining patronage since the disease hit the West African country.
A commercial sex worker who gave her name as Franca lamented that since the late Liberian, Patrick Sawyer imported the disease into the country, customers no longer come as usual.
According to the diminutive lady, “That Sawyer abi na Suya sef, na Satan go punish am. The guy na bad market. Since this Ebola disease enter Nigeria, customers have been running from us.”
Asked if she’s not afraid of contacting the disease, Franca who claimed to be a student of a private polytechnic replied: “Ebola or no Ebola, man pikin must survive.” http://temmytopeajayi.blogspot.com/2014/08/ebola-commercial-sex-workers-lament-low.html
