Dr Bansi Sharma, chief of Regional Livestock Service Directorate, Pokhara told Republica that lab tests of sample conducted in Pokhara, Kathmandu and the United Kingdom confirmed that the chicken had died of avian influenza. “Our technicians culled 2,000 chickens and destroyed feed kept at the four farms to prevent the disease from spreading. They also sprayed chemicals in the affected farms,” he added. The directorate had deployed six teams of technicians in the affected areas. Vet technicians. Sharma said bird flu was confirmed in the farms owned by Govinda Shrestha in Batulechaur, Dil Bahadur in Simpani, Shuva Laxmi Cooperatives in Birauta and Som Bahadur BK in Sarangkot.
