Nepal bird flu spreads to Nuwakot district

NUWAKOT, Jan 3: Bird flu has been detected in Chaughada VDC in Nuwakot district.

According to chairman of the Bird Flu Control District Technical Committee and Chief District Officer, Jeevan Prasad Oli, the sample taken from a dead chicken at local Dhruba Rai´s house in Chaughala VDC Ward No. 1 confirmed the presence of the H5N1 virus that causes bird flu.

A team of doctors from the capital has reached Chaughada to kill the fowls and other birds infected by bird flu. Similarly, a team including the veterinary doctors and other technicians reached the villages for preventing the spread of the disease in the area.

CDO Oli said the bird flu virus was reported to be transmitted to the local fowls from two broiler chickens brought to the village from Kathmandu.

The area has been declared a ´bird flu infected´ one. All the schools in the area have been closed for three days to prevent spreading the bird flu virus from here.
