Jump in flu cases may be straining Tamiflu supply in Grand Rapids

GRAND RAPIDS, MI – As health officials report a spike in flu cases, a local pharmacist says he is hearing reports of pharmacies running out of the antiviral medicationTamiflu.
David Miller, owner of Keystone Pharmacy, said he is filling four to five prescriptions for Tamiflu a day, and many patients say they were referred by pharmacies that have run out. In a non-flu season, he would go months without seeing a prescription for the antiviral medication.

“I think we can hang in there a week with what I have,” Miller said Wednesday, Jan. 2.
A spot check of five local pharmacies found three had no Tamiflu in stock, and the other two had only one form of the medication – either the liquid suspension for children or the capsules for adults.
