Difficulties on the ground, require sufficient resources to eradicate this epidemic in this part of the DRC, said Dr. Leo Degal, Resident Representative of WHO, to the press.
"To date, 30 cases have been reported, including 14 deaths," he said, adding that the virus detected in the DRC is different from that hit Uganda in July.
According to him, the DRC is struck by the virus Bundibungyo (theoretically less virulent), while in Uganda it was a Sudanese strain.
The Resident Representative of WHO, together with the Minister of Health and representatives of Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF), returns from a mission in the Eastern Province, where they performed an epidemiological investigation.
The outbreak of the highly virulent hemorrhagic fever extends Isiro, a city of about 200,000 inhabitants, to nearby locations in the Eastern Province.
Coordination to fight against this epidemic has been established and support was provided to the medical staff with the disbursement of U.S. $ 150,000 by the Government of the DRC. http://www.afriquinfos.com/articles/2012/9/4/millions-dollars-americains-sollicites-pour-eradiquer-lepidemie-debola-province-orientale-209167.asp
