EBOLA FEVER - DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC OF CONGO (03): (ORIENTALE) BUNDIBUGYO VIRUS CONFIRMED

[Laboratory investigations conducted at the Uganda Virus Research Institute, Entebbe, Uganda, have established the causative agent to be the ebolavirus species Bundibugyo virus (BDBV). Consequently the outbreaks presently occurring in Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo are likely to be independent events. The Ugandan outbreak is caused by the ebolavirus species Sudan virus and the DRC outbreak caused by Bundibugyo virus (originally identified in an earlier outbreak occurring in Uganda).
