Many mild bird flu cases ‘undetected’

A study by the University of Hong Kong estimates that at least 100 mild infections of H7N9 bird flu have gone undetected in adults on the mainland. The university researchers made their estimate after analysing the age distribution of patients and the pattern of exposure to chickens on the mainland. “Until the source of infection has been identified, it is expected that there will be further cases of human infection with the virus in China,” a spokesman for the World Health Organization said In a statement.
