H7N9 virus found in wild pigeons in China, 8 more people infected


SHANGHAI, April 16, Kyodo

Chinese health authorities said Tuesday the H7N9 strain of bird flu has sickened eight more people in the eastern provinces of Jiangsu and Zhejiang and the virus has been found in wild pigeons captured in the Jiangsu capital of Nanjing.
The Ministry of Agriculture said this is the first time the H7N9 virus has been found in wild birds.
Local health officials said three more people have been infected by H7N9 in Jiangsu and five in Zhejiang, raising the total number of cases to 72, all in northern and eastern China. Fourteen people have died from the disease.  http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2013/04/219973.html
