Dead animals, so hot right now. 289 pigs and 89 dogs have joined the cavalcade mysterious Chinese animal deaths. The animals' bodies were found in Luoyang's Dongtun village on Monday, after reportedly dying suddenly and all at once for reasons not yet confirmed.
While tests have ruled out the H7N9 virus as a cause, officials are still unsure as to what triggered the mass deaths. Local residents believe that it may have resulted from poisonous gases emitted from a nearby chemical plant.
"Usually there's a smell," one local said, "today it was especially bad, really big."
"Overnight, all the dogs in the village have basically died off," another resident said. "Those that hadn't died were in their last gasps."
In the past couple of months, 250 kilos of fish, over 1,000 ducks, and, of course, some 15,000 pigs have died in China due to pollution undetermined causes. http://shanghaiist.com/2013/04/16/238_pigs_89_dogs_die_in_chinese_village.php
