This finding represents a new clade was first discovered in Indonesia and is very different from the previous bird flu discovered clade 2.1. Because there are differences, the Department of Animal Husbandry and Animal Health do not know how to handle.

He said he has not dared to give the H5N1 bird flu vaccine clade 2.1. He said the central government is currently examining whether the vaccine for H5N1 clade 2.1 can be used for H5N1 clade 2.3.

"If it could be used then we still have stock of the vaccine. But that can not mean necessarily wait for the new vaccine from the central government," Arsyad said, adding that the new vaccine will be issued the central government by the end of January.  http://lampung.tribunnews.com/2013/01/03/vaksin-flu-burung-itik-diberikan-akhir-bulan?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter

According Indi, penanggulanan bird flu virus clade 2.3.2 as the clade 2.1 biosecurity, vaccination, depopulation, poultry traffic monitoring, surveillance, restrukrurisasi poultry, and public awarness. The government is also preparing a vaccine to ward clade 2.3.2. Though not considered a national epidemic, the virus is expected to continue growing."It will evolve. Therefore we do some prevention. Among the limiting traffic flow of the area infected with the virus," said Indi. Meanwhile, Agriculture Minister, Suswono promised to provide assistance to the breeder if it was a national epidemic. "It would give redress. If that's unfortunate," said Suswono.Suswono even specifically asked the national banks to provide credit to pengusah duck although it has lost. "If you can still be given, even if it could be the amount added value," said Suswono. Previous Virus H5N1 in 2003 to a national disaster. Where the chickens are not just victims. However, hundreds of men are also victims of malignancy bird flu virus. KTN, dtc, inc The latest from Duck Flu -It spread to traditional markets in Vietnam and Hong Kong-cause mortality -There are nine provinces affected, including Java -often found on farms

7 Pakistan aid workers killed by militants given mass burial

 Wednesday 2nd January, 2013
• Five women among seven activists shot dead
• Militant suspected them of being US spies
• People held mass funeral for the dead
ISLAMABAD - Thousands of villagers Wednesday held a mass burial for seven health activists, five of them women, who were gunned down by militants, the latest in the series of persecution of aid workers in the terror-riven nation.
The dead were working at an immunisation centre where children are given anti-polio vaccination.
Militants in Pakistan oppose the vaccination campaigns because they accuse health workers of being US supporters. Militant also suspect that Muslim children are being sterilised in the garb of vaccination drive.
Mourners carried seven coffins on their shoulders as they marched through the Swabi town for mass burial.
Nobody has owned responsibility for the attack that took place in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa's Swabi district Tuesday.
But they suspected that Pakistani Taliban could be behind the strike, the pattern of which draws a striking resemblance with attacks of the dreaded militant group.
Taliban militants affiliated to the Al Qaeda global terror network have been attacking charity and aid workers across the country in recent weeks.
The attacks against humanitarian workers have invited a worldwide outrage as militants have in particular been targeting health workers in a country where medicare for impoverished people is one of the primary concerns of global charity works.
The police said two men on a motorbike followed a van taking the workers, who worked at private Pakistani aid group Support With Working Solution, home.
The van was intercepted near the village of Sher Afzal Banda where militants opened fire with assault rifles and killed seven of them.
"They opened fire and killed five females and two males," said Javed Akhtar, the group's executive director. "One child, aged 7 to 8 years, miraculously survived."
On Wednesday, mourning friends and relatives recalled the carnage and how they had forewarned their kin about the impending danger to their lives.
"I told her many times at home 'be careful as we are poor people and take care of yourself all the time,'" said Fazal Dad, whose daughter was among the dead. "And always in response she said: 'Father, if I am not guilty no one can harm me'," Dad was quoted as saying by Associated Press wire news service.
The attack comes days after nine people working on an anti-polio vaccination campaign were shot dead in a series of attacks that forced the United Nations to temporarily recall its staff from Pakistan.
The attacks following a campaign of intimidation has dealt a deadly blow to health campaigns in Pakistan, one of just three countries in the world in which polio remains endemic.

Bird flu, swine flu, now South China has canine flu

    Tuesday, 1 January 2013

Guangdong scientists have published the first systematic surveillance of H3N2 canine influenza virus, which may pose a  a public health threat if it causes human infections.
The study was conducted on two H3N2 CIV A virus strains Guangdong province – one collected at a dog farm in Guangzhou and the other from a dog farm in Shenzhen. Sequence and phylogenic analysis showed that the viruses were mostly similar to the newly isolated H3N2 strains found in dogs and cats in Korea and China. The strains most likely originated in birds.
The authors said that H3N2 may be becoming a common pathogen for pet and farmed dog populations in southern China and said that further in-depth study is needed because the virus poses a potential public health threat should it start causing human infections. Outbreaks continue to appear in Guangdong province, which is located in near Hong Kong, and are most frequent in areas that are densely populated and participate in the animal trade.
The study determined that the H3N2 infection rate of avian-origin canine influenza among farmed dogs is approximately 12 percent and approximately five percent among pet dogs. The data suggests that transmission occurred between the populations as a result of relatively recent close contact between infected dogs, ScienceDirect.com reports.
The authors of the study are from South China Agricultural University and Lanzhou Veterinary Research Institute.

..The 86-year-old woman, whose identity has not been released, boarded the train in Edmonton with two relatives, and suddenly died near Parry Sound, Ontario Provincial Police said.

Two cabins on the train, which had departed from Vancouver on Dec. 25, had been quarantined after the passengers said they were feeling ill, said Elizabeth Huart, spokesperson for Via Rail.

She said it was a decision made by both train officials and the passengers themselves to stay in their cabin.

“When [these passengers] boarded the train, they indicated to our employees that they were not feeling good. That they had flu-like symptoms, and it was decided that they would be quarantined,” she said Sunday. “Which means that they would stay in their cabin, and all of the services would come to them.”

The train was travelling eastbound through McDougall Township, about 15 kilometres northeast of Parry Sound, when the woman was discovered to be unconscious and unresponsive.

At around 5:15 am on Saturday morning, West Parry Sound Ontario Provincial Police and emergency workers were notified of the woman’s death. The woman was later pronounced dead by a local coroner.

After the woman’s body was discovered in one cabin, three other train passengers were taken off the train and sent to hospital for treatment, Via Rail said.

Ms. Huart would not say what the relationship of the three passengers were to the deceased woman, she said.

The train, which was scheduled to arrive in Toronto at 9 a.m. on Sunday, was delayed by the incident for six hours.

There were 200 passengers and 13 crew members on board, Via Rail said.

The deceased woman’s identity will not be released until the family is notified, said Joanne Woodward Fraser, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Long Term Care.

The body has been transported to Toronto for an autopsy, she added.

A post-mortem examination was scheduled for Sunday at the Office of the Chief Coroner, O.P.P. said.

Ms. Huart said fatalities such as this are isolated cases, and it’s very rare for passengers to be quarantined.http://news.nationalpost.com/2012/12...n-to-hospital/
