As China’s bird flu death toll rises to nine, the country has to decided to suspend the sales of live poultry in large commercial cities. This includes Shanghai and surrounding markets.
Infected birds and even caged pigeons are being slaughtered to prevent the H7N9 virus from spreading.
Indonesia is also suspending poultry imports from China. It is a temporary ban that will be lifted as soon as Chinese health officials deem the country free of the bird flu.
The World Health Organization and Chinese officials say the outbreak is still considered to be at a manageable level.
So far, China health officials have confirmed 31 cases of the H7N9 bird flu in eastern China.
There is still no word on whether the W.H.O. will send a team of experts to track the virus.
