Discussion Meeting on Further Animal Health Assistance in Cambodia
AKP Phnom Penh, February 11, 2013 –
Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries Minister, H.E. Chan Sarun, on Feb. 8 met with senior officials from the World Organization for Animal Health (OIE) to discuss their cooperation.
Key officials from the organization are Mr. Ronello Abila, Sub-regional Representative for South East Asia and Mr. Karanvir Kukreja, Project Officer.
The two counterparts have very good cooperation, according to H.E. Chan Sarun, for instance, a joint effort to address Cambodia’s first bird flu outbreak in 2004 and other on-going collaboration.
The minister encouraged OIE to continue its provision of various signification vaccinations, technical assistance and capacity building.
Cambodia resumed its membership in the World Organization for Animal Health in 2000 after leaving it in 1973. The role of OIE increases dramatically, especially as the world is facing new deadly cases of animal diseases that can be transmitted to human beings.
