Over 2,000 chickens were slaughtered at Jitpur Fedi, Kathmandu, on Saturday following an outbreak of bird flu .
A team of experts from the Department of Livestock Services (DoLS) culled 2,390 chickens and destroyed 100kg of poultry feed from a farm belonging to Kishore Tandukar. The Tripureshwor-based Central Veterinary Laboratory confirmed the outbreak of avian flu at the poultry farm on Friday.
Dr Narayan Prasad Ghimire, a senior veterinary doctor at the DoLS, said all the culled chickens were of 11 months and experts have increased surveillance in the farm and its surrounding areas.
Almost a month ago, a similar outbreak was reported in Sitapaila, Kathmandu.
