To this end, 40 to 50 laboratory personnel who handle the virulent H5N1 virus will receive the pre- pandemic vaccine from this year.
Tsang said he had been mulling leaving the position at the center since after the swine flu pandemic in 2009 and in September this year he tendered his resignation.
"In my position I'd like to stop a little bit, pause a little bit, like a sabbatical and hopefully I will still be around," he said, adding he would not be joining the World Health Organization or other international agencies.
Its director-general, Margaret Chan Fung Fu- chun, who, when she was Hong Kong's director of health, handpicked Tsang to become the infectious disease point man after he was sent to the US Centres for Disease Control and Prevention in 1998-2000.
Tsang, who is single, said in the short term he would like to spend more time with his parents and travel. "After one year I will have a more solid concept of what I am going to do. Right now I would like to refresh some of my medical studies, pursue some hobbies including music and maybe try some volunteer work."  http://www.thestandard.com.hk/news_detail.asp?pp_cat=11&art_id=129392&sid=38509382&con_type=1

Indonesia, last week the discovery of new bird flu virus, resulted in a panic. Now even the tourist destination Bali, the death of thousands of chickens and ducks in the cause of death was "Newcastle disease virus", the experts urged the public to be vigilant.

Indonesian official has confirmed in recent weeks, causing a large number of the duck death of avian influenza virus are highly pathogenic avian influenza H5N1 virus, the avian flu virus found in Indonesia is quite different with the previous, more deadly bird flu virus has been classified as a strains.
Since Indonesia last week discovered a new bird flu virus has emerged since the first people died of bird flu cases. However, the Ministry of Health, said that the case is due to the avian influenza virus infected chickens, is not a new type of avian influenza virus. Wave "smell poultry mere mention of" the epidemic spread to many domestic and foreign tourists in Bali. Researcher at the quarantine center is located in Denpasar (Denpasar) Martha (Masa Tenaya) confirmed Bali Jim Barnaby (Jembrana) last weekend, thousands of birds died due to infection "to the" Jakarta Post "(Jakarta Post) Newcastle disease virus.Newcastle disease is a contagious viral disease of a poultry and wild birds, and humans are exposed to by the Newcastle disease virus infected birds may cause mild conjunctivitis and flu-like symptoms, however, Newcastle disease virus "does not pose a serious threat to humans. Martha said, Bali, researchers have not yet found any new bird flu virus. Nevertheless, experts still urged the public to remain vigilant. Recent avian flu cases found in April last year, and found no cases of suspected bird flu the Bali Health Secretary Thoraya (I Ketut Suarjaya) said. Bali the first time in 2005 to the outbreak of avian flu was declared that claimed six lives, four of whom are children.

Schmallenberg: Rapid spread of livestock virus

LambsThe lambing season runs from December to May

A disease that can lead to lambs and calves being stillborn or deformed has spread to every county in England and Wales.
Farmers are expected to lose livestock during the lambing season, which is just getting underway.
Schmallenberg virus was first detected in the UK earlier this year in the south and east of England.
It has spread rapidly during the summer, probably through midges, say government scientists.
"We've seen quite rapid geographic spread," the government's Chief Veterinary Officer, Nigel Gibbens, told the BBC.
"That means a lot of herds and flocks will have been exposed to the disease. The likelihood is that many of them won't show disease because they weren't infected at the right time to show disease.

"Some will - in those herds and flocks we expect an impact of 2-5% of their lambs and calves."
Rapid spread
Schmallenberg causes severe deformities in lambs and calves born to infected mothers, but adults usually recover quickly.
Cases have been documented on 976 farms in England and Wales, compared with 276 in August.
However, officials believe the true number of cases is higher. The first sign is often when livestock give birth to deformed or dead young - which can be months after the infection has occurred.
In areas where the disease has been found, the number of infected flocks and herds is likely to be "very high", said Mr Gibbens.
Alasdair Cook, head of endemic foodborne zoonoses at the Animal Health Veterinary Laboratories Agencies, said farmers should be vigilant for signs of infection, particularly when livestock are giving birth.
"The infection has been transmitted through the whole of England and Wales, effectively, up to the Scottish borders," he said.
Vaccine hope
The new emerging livestock disease was identified late last year, near the German town of Schmallenberg.
It has since been detected in Belgium, Germany, the Netherlands and the UK.
It is believed the virus was carried to England by midges blown across the Channel and was then spread by native midges during the summer.
Evidence from Europe suggests that around 6% of infected sheep flocks (and 4% of infected cattle herds) will suffer symptoms from the disease, which is only dangerous when it is passed to the unborn lamb or calf. Flocks that are infected should expect to lose between 2% and 5% of lambs.
There is a low likelihood of any risk to public health, according to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control.
A vaccine is being developed, which if proved safe and effective, could be available in the UK in time for next year's lambing season, said Mr Gibbens.  http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-20772957

Previously, a researcher with the bird flu virus in Surabaya, CA Nidom said, the emergence of a new variant of the bird flu virus is estimated to have more harmful effects of the virus before.
"I love this picture for the virus of bird native to Indonesia to the ducks and birds are not too fierce for them so the death rate is not high. Duck and quail's been spreading and its nature as a duck is not dead but is now dead duck," said Nidom in interview with the BBC Indonesia some time ago.
"This would mean more violent and transmission models ducks and quail close to humans." According Nidom 2.3 variant H5N1 virus has been circulating in South Asia countries such as Inda, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and parts of East Asia.
