4 Yr old confirmed for bird flu

Toddler in Bogor died from bird flu

JAKARTA. A four-year-old boy in the town of Bogor, West Java, died of bird flu infection. Confirmation was delivered by Rita Kusriastuti, Director of Animal Disease Control Sourced DG & PL Ministry of Health today (18/12).
According to Rita, the toddler contracted H5N1 from poultry carcasses dead near his residence, as reported by several news agencies. He died on 6 December, in the city of Tangerang, after experiencing flu-like symptoms and fever on 30 November.
He was treated at the clinic before being taken to hospital and died on the same day. Cases of bird flu in Indonesia has recently re-surfaced after last week hundreds of ducks in Central Java and East Java died from new variant H5N1.
Previously, a researcher with the bird flu virus in Surabaya, CA Nidom said, the emergence of a new variant of the bird flu virus is estimated to have more harmful effects of the virus before.
"I love this picture for the virus of bird native to Indonesia to the ducks and birds are not too fierce for them so the death rate is not high. Duck and quail's been spreading and its nature as a duck is not dead but is now dead duck," said Nidom in interview with the BBC Indonesia some time ago.
"This would mean more violent and transmission models ducks and quail close to humans." According Nidom 2.3 variant H5N1 virus has been circulating in South Asia countries such as Inda, Bangladesh, Pakistan, and parts of East Asia.
Meanwhile, local poultry farmer groups have urged the government to stop imports of Chinese ducks suspected of being the source of transmission of the virus.   http://nasional.kontan.co.id/news/balita-di-bogor-meninggal-akibat-flu-burung
