The
number of birds affected by an outbreak of bird flu in western Mexico
went from 1.7 to 2.5 million, of which nearly a million died or were
destroyed, according to a government report released
Wednesday.

Meanwhile,
in Guatemala, Deputy Agriculture Minister Mario Marcucci announced that
redoubled vigilance along its border with Mexico to prevent the virus from
entering the Central American country.
